Dr. Salata's research interests include international studies in HIV infection and HIV infection in women, sexually transmitted diseases, nosocomial infections, vaccine and non-vaccine strategies to impact on HIV seroincidence, infections in immunocompromised hosts, and the epidemiology of infectious diseases. These are collaborative studies with other faculty members involved in HIV research and requires close interactions with members of the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics.

Dr. Bobak's clinical interest includes infections in solid organ and hematologic transplant recipients, traveler's health and Hepatitis C. His research interests focus on clinical and translational research directed at understanding interactions between microbes and the host immune response. His clinical research interests include Clostridium difficile infection, hepatitis C, and emerging infections in transplant recipients. He is also developing collaborative translational research projects, relevant examples include: 1) utility of noninvasive markers of disease progression and response to therapy in patients with hepatitis C and 2) examining new molecular assays for early diagnosis of invasive fungal infections in transplant recipients.

Dr. Bonomo's research efforts are directed at understanding structure-function relationships in the class A beta-lactamases, with the SHV-1 beta-lactamases a primary focus. An additional area of research is the evolution of beta-lactamase resistant organisms in elderly patients residing in long-term core facilities and in acute-care hospitals.
